Sevylor Colorado Review

As a fishing enthusiast, I love hitting the waters now and then and what better way than in a fishing kayak. There are many different materials that are used in making kayaks, and they come with their own upsides, as well as downsides. Keeping all this in mind I wanted a kayak that was both of high quality and pocket-friendly. This is the reason I settled for the Sevylor Colorado as it suited my needs without breaking the bank.

Sevylor Colorado

This Inflatable Kayak is meant to serve people who cannot afford more expensive models as it is relatively cheaper.

Note: As the Sevylor Colorado kayak is currently unavailable in most online shops, we suggest trying out similar inflatable kayak, the Intex Explorer K2.

You can check out our full review of the K2 here.

Before buying any kayak, it would be wise to put some things into consideration. The kayak is very popular for its many advantages. Some of the things to consider before buying this product include:

  • Size of the kayak
  • Price
  • Durability
  • Warranty

However, if you are planning to use this kayak for more than 2 years, it would be important to know that it might not serve you for that long as it is bound to wear out. The Sevylor Colorado is suitable for people who are looking to just have fun kayaking without any long-term goals of using the kayak. If you take kayaking seriously, maybe as a sport, or if fishing is your profession, you should consider buying a more durable kayak that will serve you for long.

This kayak is popular with fishermen or couples looking to have some open water fun as it accommodates two paddlers. It is a great product for people who do not own a garage to store a traditional kayak as its storage needs are limited. It can simply be deflated to fit in a duffel bag. This kayak is made of PVC material, making it very lightweight. At only 41lbs, it is very portable for those who live far away from the river. This kayak is the newer version of Sevylor Rio. Although it might not be the highest quality kayak on the market, it is very solid, easy to paddle, affordable, and styled the same way as the traditional kayak. Indeed, many people consider the Colorado to be the best inflatable kayak. Besides, it comes with two flexible bucket seats.

Features of Sevylor Colorado

This product comes with its own set of upsides as well as cons.

Small and Lightweight

This Kayak is quite portable due to its size and weight and folds up easy. Users can carry it in a 2 by 3-inch carrying case. This also means that it can easily fit in your closet, which makes it ideal for people who do not have any storage space. You can easily carry this kayak on your shoulder and head to the waters. Even if you want to go fishing in an exotic country, all you have to do is grab your folded kayak and head there.

Berkeley Quick-Set Rod Holders

This kayak was meant for fishing, and that is why it comes with fully adjustable and durable set rod to help you get your lure down as fast as possible. As you manage your gear, the paddles get secured by paddle holders that come with this kayak.

Mesh Storage Pockets

It comes with these wonderful storage pockets where you can secure your accessories and gear. Do not forget the D-rings that you can use to tie down all your gear. The carrying capacity is large enough to accommodate extra gear you might bring with you.

Sevylor Trolling Motor Fittings

Sevylor invented the PVC heat welding back in 1948, which led to the invention of the inflatable craft. The fittings make it easy to connect a trolling engine to the kayak. Its 12V electric motors are very silent but very powerful to get you to your destination. The best part is that the trolling motor is electric and very light and can easily be carried in a car trunk or stored in a closet too.

The Sevylor Colorado is made of 18-gauge PVC that is carefully coated onto a nylon fabric base. It comes with a magnificent 1000D fabric hull. The outside is fully covered in sturdy 870D fabric that is meant to protect it from any jagged tree branches, abrasions from a nylon rope, and ruptures from fish hooks. It has independent chambers that ensure you stay afloat in case one side gets ruptured. The hull floor that uses a double I-beam make ensures that the kayak remains stable and doesn’t sag.

It comes with a double lock inflation system that ensures that no air leaks while you paddle. This keeps your kayak inflated at all times which adds to your safety

It is 11 feet long and more than 3 feet wide, which makes it wider than most hard-shell kayaks. This ensures that it doesn’t tip over while you are paddling. Its adjustable seats are bound to keep you very comfortable during your outing. You can easily remove the seats to make its packaging easier. You can position the seats however you like while the straps keep the backrest intact. The backrests are also great for those who suffer from back pains.

This kayak is very maneuverable in water, making it an ideal canoe or even a trolling craft. Its skeg system ensures a proper tracking. This ensures that no fishing hole will be too hard to get to. Just get out to the shallow channels that other boats cannot go to.

Easy Set-up

It only takes a few minutes to inflate this kayak. Its connectors ensure that you easily connect the pump to the valves found on the hull and side chambers. The process includes getting the kayak from the carrying case and laying it on the ground. Continue to attach your pump and inflate the Boston valves

Maintaining the right pressure in your kayak is very important, which is why it comes with a pressure gauge that makes sure your kayak is kept at the right psi. After inflating your kayak, simply put the pump in the storage pouch found in the hull and go on your adventure.

Convenience and Price

This kayak doesn’t need a boat trailer like most hard-shell counterparts do. You can just toss it into your vehicle’s back seat and be on your way. The price is also very pocket-friendly compared to that of the hard shell kayaks.

Pros & Cons of the Sevylor Colorado Kayak

  • Durable
  • Pocket-friendly
  • Extremely spacious
  • Comes with convenient mesh storage areas
  • It is very portable
  • Has numerous D-rings to secure your gear
  • It could have some improved air valves
  • Doesn’t come with a pump and paddles
  • Its tracking performance is wanting
  • Comes with only a 1-year warranty

Our rating: 4.4 Star Rating  4.4 / 5

The reason I believe that Sevylor Colorado is the best is due to its many features. These include the fact that it is very stable, has a big capacity, and comes with great tracking capabilities. You can easily get in and out of the water with this kayak and it is bound to leave you with beautiful memories. It is suitable for anyone looking to have fun and doesn’t have a lot of money to spend on a kayak.

Some of the things that I would love to see improved include packing a pump and paddles in the package, the Boston valves could also do with some upgrading and it could be constructed with a material that doesn’t leak water inside the hull sleeves as this can lead to mildew development and consequently, reducing its life-span.
